Safe Water Carbon Credits
At Carbon Kind, we recognise that access to safe water is fundamental to breaking the cycle of poverty and a powerful climate solution.
Our commitment is to provide sustainable water solutions to vulnerable communities in Togo, West Africa, addressing humanitarian needs while driving positive environmental impact.
Through borehole rehabilitation and WASH training, we equip communities with the tools and knowledge to build healthier, more resilient futures.
WHY SAFE WATER MATTERS
In Togo, many rural families rely on unsafe water sources, leading to illness and disease. Often, water is either consumed untreated or purified over open fires, contributing to high carbon emissions and deforestation. The task of collecting water and fuel disproportionately affects women and young children, limiting their opportunities for income generation and education.
Our approach is simple yet impactful: we rehabilitate boreholes to restore access to safe drinking water, reducing reliance on unsafe or unsustainable alternatives. With only 17% of households in Togo having access to handwashing facilities with soap and water, we also provide vital WASH (water, sanitation and health) training to empower communities to reduce the spread of fatal diseases.
Beyond individual households, access to safe water through rehabilitated boreholes offers extensive community and environmental benefits:
Carbon Emission Reduction: Eliminating the need to boil water over open fires reduces the burning of wood and charcoal, directly lowering carbon emissions.
Deforestation Mitigation: Decreasing reliance on firewood helps preserve local forests, maintaining biodiversity and preventing land degradation.
Health Improvements: Access to clean water reduces waterborne diseases, and minimising indoor air pollution from open fires enhances respiratory health, particularly for women and children.
Empowerment of Women and Children: With reduced time spent collecting water and firewood, women and children have more opportunities for education and income-generating activities, promoting gender equality and community development.
Climate Resilience: Reliable water sources strengthen community resilience against drought and climate change, ensuring sustainable livelihoods even in challenging conditions.
Every credit you support helps cut carbon, protect forests, improve health, and strengthen communities.
Revenue from the sale of these carbon credits are reinvested into community-led projects in Togo, empowering local communities to build resilience and drive sustainable change.
