Cookstove Carbon Credits
At Carbon Kind, we believe that real climate action starts with communities. That’s why we’re excited to offer certified cookstove carbon credits, in partnership with Carbon Kind and validated under VERRA, that not only help offset emissions but also create lasting, positive change in West Africa.
In 2023, we built our own cookstove workshop in rural Togo, where we manufacture clean, safe, and fuel-efficient cookstoves that are deployed directly to communities in need. By employing, manufacturing, and distributing locally, we drive real community-led development and stimulate the local economy throughout the supply chain.
WHY CLEAN COOKSTOVES MATTER
Globally, 2.3 billion people, one-third of the world’s population, lack access to clean cooking facilities. In rural Togo, families often rely on inefficient three-stone fires, which consume large amounts of firewood, expose households to harmful smoke, and contribute to deforestation and poverty.
Our locally made Adokpo Wazam cookstoves provide a simple yet transformative solution. Using less than half the firewood of traditional three-stone fires, they significantly reduce smoke emissions, improving respiratory health, especially for women and children, who spend the most time near cooking fires. By cutting firewood collection time, they also free up hours each day for women and girls to pursue education, income-generating activities, and community leadership.
Beyond the household, clean cookstoves help protect forests and biodiversity by reducing firewood demand, slowing deforestation, and preserving vital ecosystems. Investing in clean cooking is an investment in healthier families, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future.
Revenue from the sale of these carbon credits are reinvested into community-led projects in Togo, empowering local communities to build resilience and drive sustainable change.
In addition to helping offset emissions, your purchase supports 8 Sustainable Development Goals.
